|
|
I realize that you're working on getting Jokosher in shape to easily be installed on multiple versions of Linux, but is there any possibility of someone creating a Jokosher Live CD? Morphix and SLAX are both quite nice, and designed to be (relatively) easy to extend.
There's already a Morphix-based music distro and actually someone building music modules for SLAX, and I'll probably ask one of them about supporting Jokosher as well.
But most of the devs seem to be working from Ubuntu, so if there were a custom live Ubuntu with Jokosher (i.e. on the Live CD, instead of having to be downloaded each time), that would probably be the best option. |

If there every is a Jokosher live CD, it should probably be dyne:bolic, or something similar, simply because it has the low-latency kernel and other drivers, etc required for good audio editing.
Also even better than a live CD would be a to have Jokosher on a USB key and possibly a linux installation too unless we get win32 and Mac support. Then we could call it the Jokosher Stick and have the catch phrase "A studio in your pocket." |

I grabbed a copy and burned it, but it won't load on my machine. It gets to the command line login prompt, but I get a bunch of errors when it's booting in verbose mode - cp failed and out of disk space sort of stuff.
I assume I just don't have enough memory to load it. It passed checksum before burning, and didn't give any write errors while creating the CD. I didn't see any memory requirements on the Aris website, and I've been able to boot other Live CDs (Knoppix, SLAX, Ubuntu and so on). |

Yeah, That happened to me when loading the ISO with VMware with less than 300MB of Ram, I need to check on a solution for this. Im sorry for the trouble it gave you. But for the mean time it looks like if theres less than 300MB on the system, the LiveCD wont run |

Did you put that on by hand or do you have an ebuild for it? A gentoo ebuild for Jokosher would be nice, make it easier for new developers to ensure they have all the dependancies, etc....

There's already an ebuild availible for the 0.1 release. I should know because I wrote it, it's also the ebuild used on the wiki page (currently down), which has just been revamped and is definitely worth a read. You can grab the .ebuild directly from Gentoo's bugzilla here.
Whether Aris OS makes use of this or not I don't know but I'd certainly be interested to find out. |

DistroWatch pointed out an interesting new project called reconstructor which lets you build custom live Ubuntu CDs. Anyone want to build a custom Ubuntu that supports Jokosher? |

I grabbed the Ubuntu Edgy Eft Knot 3 Live CD (that's a mouthful!) this weekend, and Jokosher 0.1 was on the packages list, so I got a chance to play with it a bit.
For the most part, it was quite nice. There were bugs, such as when I imported some audio, and when I moved the audio track the playback didn't reflect that that audio had been moved. There were also lots of missing features, like the click track, which the dialog box said was promised for 0.2.
I didn't get a chance to play with it that much once the kids found Egoboo and Globulation 2, but what I saw looked quite nice. I'll see if I can get Jokosher 0.2 on Edgy running "the hard way." |
